Young Heims entered AARCS’ care as part of a group of transfers from a partner shelter in Saskatchewan. Facing capacity issues and high demand from their community, they desperately needed to move some animals out in order to re-open intake. AARCS agreed to make the trip and take several dogs and cats for rehoming. Heims was among those who made their way to Calgary and found herself under AARCS’ care for her journey to adoption.

Once she arrived, and as part of her adoption preparation, Heims was dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. In addition, Heims had a couple of fractured teeth that required extraction. Heims made her way into foster care and is winning the hearts of everyone she meets. She is a little shy at first, but given some time she warms up quickly. She is a playful pup and enjoys snuggling with her foster parents after a good wrestle-and-chase session with her furry foster brother.

A significant contributor to animal welfare initiatives and a long-time supporter of AARCS is PetSmart Charities of Canada, which granted AARCS $40,000 for Adoption Preparation. In January 2024 alone, AARCS welcomed 400 animals into our care that will all make their way through the adoption preparation process.

Just like with Heims, we will ensure they too are happy and healthy pets prior to adoption. Please join us in thanking PetSmart Charities of Canada for their generous support in helping give second chances to so many deserving animals!

PS: Heims is currently available for adoption! Check out her profile here.
