AARCS Veterinary Hospital is a fast-paced, high volume clinic designed specifically to help rescued animals. Our team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, assistants and support staff ensure the animals are provided with the highest standard of medical care. The hospital is fully equipped allowing our team to perform a variety of treatments on a daily basis.
THE ROLE: This role is responsible for supporting our skilled team of Veterinarians. Having both a love of people and animals, you are naturally optimistic, positive, friendly, and approachable. Working with on-site Veterinarians, the medical team, and a group of dedicated volunteers, you pride yourself on exceptional patient care. You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, including high-volume surgery and hospitalization, and isolation for infectious disease. You have highly developed cooperation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Your love of animals extends to shy, reactive, and feral animals which you can handle with confidence and care. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Genuine interest in animal welfare.
- Animal handling experience is required, including the ability and willingness to work with animals with behavioral issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Diligent attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and time management skills are required.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide medical care to shelter and foster animals (primarily cats, dogs, guinea pigs and rabbits), including physical examinations, diagnostics, medical rounds, and treatments under the guidance of Veterinarians, while ensuring safe handling of animals with behavioral concerns.
- Perform pre-medication, induction, intubation, and monitoring of anesthesia for surgical procedures, and respond to anesthetic emergencies with proficiency and care.
- Conduct high-volume surgical preparation, monitoring, recovery, and sterilization wrap packing to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Administer treatments, injections, and medications, and provide supportive care for hospitalized and isolated animals, adhering to strict disease prevention protocols.
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics, including radiographs, bloodwork, urinalysis, fecals, cytology, and ultrasounds, oral health assessments, diagnostic dental radiographs, and dental charting.
- Educate foster parents and adopters on animal health, including prescription medication usage and general wellness.
- Maintain accurate medical records in coordination with veterinary staff, entering data daily into electronic systems such as PetPoint.
- Collaborate with Veterinarians, Veterinary Technologist Assistants, and volunteers to deliver a high standard of care, maximizing resources while minimizing costs.
- Perform clinic husbandry tasks, including cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining equipment and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with quarantine and sanitation protocols to manage and prevent contagious diseases.
- Support scheduling, phone inquiries, and operational needs for surgeries, examinations, and rechecks.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Licensed RVT in the province of Alberta.
- Must be in good standing with the ABVMA.
- Minimum three years of surgical experience is preferred.
- Experience in animal welfare/shelter environment is considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Hospital environment within a busy animal shelter with a moderate to loud noise level.
- The position involves exposure to dangerous and/or diseased animals.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and up to 120 lbs with assistance.
- Ability to stand, sit, crouch, bend and lift for extended periods of time.
DETAILS:
- Permanent, full-time – open to part-time.
- Shifts: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM- 6:00 PM – No overnight shifts. Open to part-time for the right fit.

- Salary Range: $20.00 – $27.90 hourly, based on experience and qualifications

SUMMER STUDENT DATA ADMINISTRATOR

THE ROLE: As a Data Administrator, you’ll be at the heart of how AARCS connects with its amazing community of donors. Every donation tells a story, and you’ll help make sure those stories are tracked, acknowledged, and celebrated the right way.
Along with your team, you’ll be keeping our donor database (Raiser’s Edge) clean, accurate, and up-to-date, processing donations, answering donor questions, and helping ensure tax receipts and records are handled smoothly and on time.
But it’s not just data entry. You’ll also collaborate with our Resource Development team, contributing ideas to support fundraising campaigns and helping out with digital and technical projects. If you like mixing detail-oriented work with creativity and teamwork, you’ll feel right at home.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old.

- Highly detail-oriented, bringing forth a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry and analysis.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong analytical skills and an understanding of accounting principles.
- Querying and reporting as well as data entry and gift acknowledgement.
- Willingness to learn CRM systems and processes is a requirement.
- A quick thinker and efficient self-starter who takes initiative; has the ability to set priorities and manage workloads with minimal supervision.
- The ability to effectively communicate information in written and verbal format.
- Non-profit experience and a solid understanding of donor management systems, including Raiser’s Edge is considered an asset.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for day-to-day donor database management, including processing donations, processing constituents and running required daily reports (Daily Donations, Weekly Donations, Daily Declined Transactions, and Tribute/Memorial Donations).
- Managing donor inquiries, including reissuing tax receipts to donors, updating credit card and address information.
- Providing positive donor experiences through prompt and friendly customer service.
- Responsible for donor database maintenance, including running maintenance queries, merging duplicate records, updating contact information, updating mailer list subscriptions and updating mailing addresses to standards set by Canada Post.
- Run statistical analysis queries and reports in Raiser’s Edge as needed.
- Maintain and follow up with donors who sign up for the Legacy and Forever After Pet Program.
- Administer the Third Party Fundraising, lottery and auction platforms so that records are properly imported into the donor management system.
- Create and maintain Fund, Campaign and Appeal categories in the donor management system.
- Assist in entering all non-integrated gifts into the donor management system.
- Set up events and donation forms in Raiser’s Edge and the website for fundraising initiatives.
- Maintain the monthly donor database to ensure new donors are thanked, monthly gifts are acknowledged when received, failed transactions are followed up on and credit card information is updated promptly.
- Assist donors with access and use of the Donor Portal tool.
- Issue consolidated annual tax receipts to all monthly donors.
- Prepare and audit mailing lists for mail-outs.
- Administer user access and facilitate training for staff using Raiser’s Edge.
- Assist with donor recognition efforts, including writing thank-you emails and cards.
- Improve processes and find innovative solutions for the donor management system as new enhancements are released in the system.
- Assist in overall fundraising efforts by providing creative input, ideas and concepts.
- Other tasks as assigned.

Working along side the Human Resources Manager, you’ll be part of a collaborative, people-first team that supports staff across AARCS.
