About Fir

Hi, My name is Fir. I’m a 3 month old heeler mix.

Fir (a.k.a. Firby)  is a fun-loving, adventurous puppy who is doing wonderfully with his training. He is house-trained and knows how to sit and lay down, though he’s still mastering “lay down” without the promise of a treat.

He’s very curious about the world around him and loves meeting new people and dogs. While large dogs can sometimes feel intimidating, he warms up quickly and is gaining confidence as he grows. Firby responds to his nickname and is learning excellent leash manners. He has made great progress with not pulling, though he is still learning and improving every day. We encourage providing him with mental stimulation, such as a lick mat or interactive toy, especially if he will be left alone, as this helps keep him calm and engaged. He is taken outside frequently—about every 10 minutes after drinking water or 20–30 minutes after eating—and is always rewarded with a treat to reinforce good potty habits.

Firby is generally a quiet puppy and does best sleeping on a bed near people. When left alone in his playpen, he may vocalize briefly but settles with comfort and enrichment. Like most puppies, Firby enjoys exploring with his nose and may occasionally nibble at interesting scents during walks. He has a few endearing quirks, such as choosing the bathroom mat for naps because it’s warm and cozy, and poking his head through the shower curtain to check on you. Firby sometimes joins me on walks to school, where he absolutely loves the attention from kids. He gets so excited that he wiggles his whole little bum—but don’t worry, he’s friendly and gentle. While he enjoys meeting people, Firby tends to choose a few individuals as his special favorites, forming sweet and loyal bonds with them.
