About Jolene

“Hi, my name is Jolene; I’m a sweet, energetic, and gentle girl!

My favourite activities are: playing with puzzle toys, napping, cuddles, adventures, and eating! I don’t know many tricks yet as I’m building up my confidence, so at the moment I only know sit, down, and wait, but with time foster mom says I’ll be great at trick training. In new situations I can also be a bit nervous and shy, so I do best working up to new things.

When it comes to playing, puzzle toys are my favourite and have played a very important part in me gaining confidence. I also like to carry around my soft toys and zoom around the yard with them. I’m still learning how to play with humans, but have started to play fetch, foster mom thinks I’ll play more once I gain more confidence. I love playing with the big resident dog, but I can be a bit rambunctious with him; I like to hip bump him and put my paws on his back. Foster mom thinks I’d do best in a home with a young confident dog to put up with my playful antics and to help me build confidence. When it comes to the resident cats I do really good with them and have never tried to chase them! I like to give them nose boops, kisses, and even nap with them. I haven’t met any children yet but foster mom thinks I’d do great once I learn more manners.

I’m a very quiet girl when it comes to barking, but I do whine or make little growls if I want your attention or something upsets me. If I need to go outside, I’ll hit a bell or whine to let you know that I need to go out. I’m still learning how to be alone, but I usually do very good if it’s a spot I want to be in (such as a soft dog bed); If I’m left in an area that I don’t like I can be a bit anxious and whine, cry, or howl. So far, I’ve been pretty well behaved when left alone, but foster mom has caught me trying to sneak food from the table a few times, so I’m working on this. I’m also still working on crate training and prefer to sleep outside my crate if possible. I do sleep in the crate if I have to, but it can take a few minutes for me to calm down.

I love asking for tummy rubs and head scratches, but I can be a bit of an attention hog and sometimes lack an understanding of personal space. I can also get a bit over excited when meeting people and will paw or jump up on them for attention, I’m quickly improving though and can usually be redirected into a sit. Occasionally, I can get a bit jealous of the resident dog getting attention and will push him out of the way, but I’m quickly learning that humans have two hands so we can be pet at the same time.

On walks, I’m an explorer at heart, enjoying every sniff and adventure. I’m usually really good on leash, but I sometimes forget manners and pull, but with patience and positive reinforcement, I’ll be strolling by your side in no time. I also do good in the car as long as I have a seatbelt; otherwise, I may try to sit in the front with you. My adventurous spirit also means a fenced yard is a must to ensure I stay safe.

Basic training will help me build confidence, and I’m ready for a family willing to invest time and effort into my development. Foster mom says with the right guidance, I’m sure to blossom into an even more delightful companion.

I would love a home with someone who can help me build confidence, give me cuddles, and bring me on adventures!” xo, Jolene
