About Swede
Slightly timid
Meet Swede, a petite and light-footed little cat who embodies sweetness and independence. She would be a perfect companion for someone who appreciates a cat with a quiet, laidback and subtle presence.
Swede is an independent and self-contained cat. She likes to spend much of the daytime in her quiet place in the bedroom snoozing under a blanket. But hidden underneath the quiet exterior is a very alert and curious cat. She enjoys household activity: when she hears noises, people bustling around, or new people arriving, rather than hiding she comes out to see what’s going on. And since introducing a new foster cat to the home, Swede has really come out of her shell, becoming more outgoing and active during the daytime. Her foster mom thinks she would do well in medium activity home, one where there is another cat present to entertain her and spark her interest in life!
Swede always runs – not walks – to the kitchen in the mornings and evenings to be served her meals. She is a quiet cat and rarely meows, but as she becomes more used to people and her foster cat sister, she has started to vocalize more. Her two new happy chirrup sounds are “I sure appreciate this delicious food!” and “ What the heck is that other cat up to?” Swede’s preferred place to sleep is on the bed at your feet, or close beside you on her own pillow.
Swede is still a bit jumpy about being touched. She will accept occasional gentle petting, and she reciprocates by licking your skin and purring loudly. She enjoys spending some quiet time on your lap in the mornings and evenings once she feels safe. She doesn’t like to be overly petted, though, and when she’s had enough, she’ll let you know clearly. If you miss her cues, she may get a bit nippy. When you get to know and respect her boundaries, you’ll see that her nippiness is just part of her charm! It makes the times when she loves being petted all the more special. Like when you awaken at 1 AM to discover her face two inches away from you, and she decides it’s the perfect time for some cheek scratches!
Swede would be best suited to a home where her unique personality will be respected, and where she can thrive on careful attention and be allowed to unfold at her own pace and just be herself. Adopting Swede means giving her the chance to share her gentle love and enrich your life with her calm, peaceful and curious presence.
