About Teagan

“Hello! My name is Teagan and I am excited about the next stage of my life. I was a young mama and have finished raising my adorable litter of six puppies. I am ready to have some time with my very own forever family and settle in to some cuddles and playtime. I’m ready to be your trusting bestie!

I took a few days to warm up and let myself relax with my foster family. Now I show every day how much I love getting attention, scratches and cuddles. I’ll lean in for more whenever I get the chance!

I am usually quite calm, considering I am still an adolescent. I have a level of maturity about me that says, ‘I love being around my people but I know that sometimes I just have to let them do their thing.’ I am happy to relax close by or watch the goings on when they need to get something done.

Even so, now that I know I am safe and loved I have allowed a few zoomies to sneak in from my carefree puppy past. They don’t last for long, but I can be a whirling dervish for a hot minute.
I do love to be taken out for a good sniff walk and watch the people and critters wandering about. I am really interested in bunnies and squirrels. Sometimes I just watch them in fascination but other times I’d like to follow after them. They’re pretty quick though, so I don’t bother trying for long.

I’ve been okay with the people that pass by and am interested in meeting other pups when I see them out walking their humans. I’ve had a couple brief nose-to-nose meetings with neighborhood dogs and I think I like them. I haven’t yet had any interactions with cats.

There was already a big 11 year old dog here when I arrived. He is not into playing and that is alright by me; I was pretty uncertain around playful dogs at the shelter. This old dog and I took a week or so to figure out who gets the prime dog bed when… and to be patient when the other is getting attention. We have stopped grumbling at each other and coexist nicely now.
I am super food motivated and I quickly proved I can sit and wait for food rewards. I am patient while waiting for my morning and evening meals and am comfortable with people being around me when I eat. I do search for things to nibble off of the floor and have been observed checking out interesting smells up on the counter. My foster parents are helping me understand that I need to keep four on the floor because they’ll give me the food I am allowed to have.

I have always been able to sleep through the night and I love a big comfy dog bed. I am completely house trained and I know where I need to wait to go outside. I don’t really bark so you might not even know that I want to go out. We’ll just work on that together.

While I don’t like to go into a crate, I have been okay in one when left alone for short periods. It is not my favorite place to be but my fosters’ pet cam confirms that I have quickly settled each time. If you need me to be in a crate for longer times, the good people at AARCS have some great ideas for helping me get used to that.

I like to have space to wander and play so a fenced yard is important. I’m still uncertain about small humans and have startled at the sounds that come out of them. I’d likely do best with older kids because they will be better able to read my doggie body language.

My fosters tell me I’m a pretty fantastic pup with both spring in my step and calm patience that would fit beautifully into a balanced life together. So… shall we take on a future of wonderful walks, hanging out in the yard and enjoying couch cuddles? I’m up for it!”
