About Tess
Tess is a sweet and loving little girl. She loves affection from her people and is the kind of girl who wants to be in on the action. She’s always curious about whatever her humans are up to—whether that means following you around while you do housework or calmly lying nearby to supervise while you cook. She used to want to always be near her foster mom but she has gained enough security and confidence that she finds her own spots to chill on her own through the day.
Tess is very comfortable with her people and is an easy girl when it comes to handling. She doesn’t put up much of a fuss if you’re clipping her nails, checking her teeth, or picking her up. When it comes to strangers she can be more nervous, although she has come a long way and is now able to encounter people outside the home much more calmly. She usually doesn’t make a peep—she may freeze for a moment, but with some gentle encouragement she keeps going and will often continue her walk on her own. Meeting strangers in the home is harder for her and she will need slow introductions and a bit of patience.
Speaking of walks, Tess loves them! It’s hard to even remember the days when she first arrived in her foster home and was too scared to go out walking. Now getting outside and exploring is one of her favorite parts of the day—unless it’s very cold out, in which case she’s perfectly happy keeping walks short and sweet.
Tess is also a very smart girl. She already knows several cues including sit, stay, come here, lay down, and touch, and she’s currently working on mastering place. She enjoys squeaky toys and loves interactive food puzzles.
When she’s not playing or walking, Tess is a bit of a sun-worshipper. On warm days she loves stretching out on the porch or lying in the sunshine and simply enjoying the moment. She is extremely well-behaved in the yard and rarely makes a sound at the neighbours, happily doing her own thing.
Tess is also continuing to build confidence when it comes to spending time alone and is making steady progress, but this kind of training takes time. She will need a home where someone can be around with her as she continues building up the amount of time she can comfortably be left on her own.
Tess truly makes the most loving and joyful little companion.
