About Iris
My name is Iris because of my very distinctive right eye that is part brown and part blue! My other eye is all icy blue. Foster mom thinks I am quite beautiful.
I have been very lucky to live in two great foster homes. My main foster home is pretty laid back, but I also stayed with a really active foster home and loved it! I was a really great running partner and loved going to the agility park and jumping over things! I also loved playing with the other friendly dog in the house. The dog in my main foster home is older and doesn’t want to play with me. I’m okay with that, but I think I would rather live with a playful dog!
Even though I get along great with the dogs in both my foster homes, I needed a slow introduction. I can be a bit nervous at first, so I just need time to make sure I am safe. I think dogs that are similar in size and play style to me (medium) are the best companions for me.
Did I tell you I love going for walks? Because I do! I walk really well on leash and am very polite when meeting people. Sometimes I react to other dogs, and sometimes I don’t. I also like car rides and usually call “shot gun!” I am very well behaved in the front seat, but when foster mom makes me go in the back seat, I’m fine with that too.
As much as I love going for walks and playing, I think my FAVOURITE thing is cuddling and belly rubs. I love stretching out on the couch for a full body massage, but I can also curl into a small ball when it’s time for a snooze. At night I prefer sleeping in the people bed, but I will also sleep in my crate when foster mom says there’s no room in the bed!
When I first came to live with my foster family, I would get anxious and cry when they left me alone. But now that I know they are coming back, I just settle down in my crate and chew on a tasty bone. Moving to a new home may cause me to anxious when left alone, but with time & patience, I’ll adjust to the new routine.
My foster family has 19 year old cat. I was pretty interested in him at first and wanted to play, but he made it clear he was not interested. I pretty much ignore him now – as long as he doesn’t run!
If my new family doesn’t have a dog to play with, I will still be happy if there are toys and people to play with! I like to play tug and chew on squeaky toys and bones. I loved playing with a 10 year old human and her friends, but because I still jump a bit when I am excited, little kids might not be the best fit.
Now that you know a bit about me, do you think you might be my perfect forever family?
