About Shi

“Hi, I’m Shi, and I am gentle and very shy! But let me tell you, there’s more to me than meets the eye. I might take a little time to warm up, but once I do, you’ll see how much I want to belong.

I have come a long way from my semi-feral beginnings. I come inside to sleep now and I do my business outside – I’ll even wake you up to let me out! My manners, well they’re impeccable – no jumping on furniture, and no chewing shoes here… I don’t even bark – although I might whine a little – very quietly. I’ve never been left home alone inside the house and I’m terrified of my kennel. I can, however, find comfort in the cozy warmth of a home, chewing on my toys, laying on my blankets when my humans are relaxing, and sleeping inside on my own bed when they go to bed.

I still have this thing about collars and leashes so you can’t take me on a walk yet – but “we’re working on it”. I’m still learning to trust.

Plush squeaky toys, towels and blankets are my favorite toys, and I love dragging them out to the yard for a good chew. Outdoors is still where I feel most alive, even when the air is crisp and the snow is falling. I love watching the world go by, observing the squirrels and birds and dogs walking by, with curiosity, but never feeling the need to chase or bark at them.

Snuggling isn’t really my thing either. I like my space, you know? But don’t get me wrong, I’m not opposed to a little affection, as long as it’s on my terms. That’s why I’ll sniff you and let you touch me if you’re laying or sitting down – it’s my way of feeling safe and comfortable. Once I’m feeling secure, you can rub my face, scratch my back, play with my ears…I can’t get enough! Sometimes I’ll even take food from my People’s hands – but very gingerly…I do have a good appetite and let myself be coaxed with food!

I may be shy, but I’m also full of love and potential. All I need is someone who understands me, someone patient, kind and perhaps experienced, who will give me the time and space I need to blossom into the wonderful companion I know I can be.

With your patience and understanding, I know I’ll learn that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. I’ll continue to grow more comfortable, and with the guidance of an experienced human, I’ll thrive in a loving home where I can truly be myself.

So, what do you say? Are you ready to take a chance on a shy pup like me?” – xo, Shi
