About Turnip

“Hey everyone, my name’s Turnip and I’ve been told I’m a bit of a rascal!

My fave games are tug, fetch, or just chewing on a good bone, as I’m a pretty energetic guy! I love to meet new people and cuddle up to them on walks, and I love a good wrestle with other dogs! I am still learning proper introductions to doggy friends, so I can be a bit intense when I first meet them. I think another doggie friend could help me learn how to be a bit more relaxed, but just us two training together would be super rad too, I would love to see what a team we make! I do love humans of all sizes, but I am still working on learning not to give a nip or a playful chomp with my puppy teeth. I would do best in a home with older dog-savvy tweens or teens, or even just fun loving active adults.

I like to go for sniffs more than walks, following scent trails and picking up pine cones and sticks is the best! Sometimes I get frustrated on walks and throw a bit of a wildman tantrum, but I can be redirected with a toy to focus on. If you bring a tug or a squeaker on walks then I wont keep my eyes off you, I promise! I am a confident walker and I enjoy jumping up on platforms, climbing around bushes, and of course saying hello to everything I see! I am intelligent and I do well in the home when I have something to do. I sleep through the night in my kennel, occasionally returning to my kennel by choice to have a nap during the day. Potty training is going pretty good because when I am regularly let out I will always go outside, but sometimes I still don’t quite make it. I know with a backyard for easy potty breaks I will have it mastered in no time. The commands I know are ‘party time’ (potty), kennel, sit, down, and paw, although I may need a treat or toy for some encouragement.

I have a cat friend at the foster, but she doesn’t like me so much, I wish she would play with me. I will chase cats if they run, its a fun game, but I am gentle with them. I also enjoy the thrill of the chase with birds and rabbits, but I haven’t ever caught up to one. I’m working on a ‘leave it’ command as well which is helpful on walks or when the cat isn’t interested. If you or I need some time to wind down I do very well in my kennel. Sometimes I can get skeptical of noises (neighbors, rustling, vaccuum) and may bark at them, but I just need some reassurance from my people. I am great at catching anything that falls on the floor, and I will volunteer to be the in house cardboard shredder.

Once I put my trust in you I will show you my sleepy calm side and I’ll settle down for a cuddle by your side with my favorite chew toy. I’d love you forever if you scratch behind my ears and on my neck. I truly love hanging out with my people and climbing around on them, personal space isn’t necessary.

You will fall in love with my big ears (I hope I grow into them!) And my curious zest for life. I cant wait to chase the leaves, snowflakes, and blades of grass with you, friend!”
