Handsome, lovable goofball looking for his furever home!

“Howdy there, thank you for checking out my adoption page, I’m Fernando!

I can be pretty shy when meeting new people or going to new places, so will need time to decompress before you will get to meet the amazing me. I haven’t met any kids but might enjoy older (13+) children that will understand I need time, space and patience! Once I am comfortable, then you will get to see that I am full of energy and love!

My favorite plaything is my fellow foster dog and would be sooo happy to have a dog sibling in my furever home. When not playing with another dog, I keep myself occupied by tossing around my stuffed toys, getting them to squeak and bouncing around the living room. I enjoy a good chew and may tear up my stuffies, a book or two, and when desperate, furniture. I can be redirected with bully sticks, a Nylabone or stuffed Kongs, and would much prefer these fun, yummy treats. Otherwise, I am not very mouthy, which is great as I can be a bit slobbery.

I am working on house manners and training. When not being supervised I am kept in the kitchen on my own or with fellow foster and BFF, Brandy.   I understand that I am to go outside to do my “business” and do this pretty consistently.  There is just one spot in the hall, right in front of a litter box that I still get confused about and occasionally have an accident. I am OK with being leashed but am not good at walks just yet. I love going in the backyard for a good romp, will chase the birds, toss my toys around, and generally have a grand time.  This white fluffy stuff is AMAZING, I could spend hours digging my nose around!! The funny thing is, I get nervous when foster mom comes out in the yard with me, I may stay out for a bit but usually end up running back inside.  Hopefully your home has a nice, fenced yard I will be able to have access to that will help me gain confidence being outside without needing to walk on leash!

I have met a number of cats in my foster home and will occasionally try to get them to play. The cats here are very dog savvy and will let me know when I’m pushing their boundaries and I know to leave them alone.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE a good belly rub and will ask for pets and cuddles. Foster mom seems to think I need sprucing up and tries to brush me, clean my face and trim my nails, I am not impressed.  I might tolerate one or two swipes of the brush but no more.  She really wants to brush my tail saying, “you could have a beautiful feathery tail if you’d let me brush it out”. Geesh, I’m a boy dog, not a girl bird!

I don’t jump up; I rarely bark and am super gentle when taking treats from a hand.  I really do have lots of love to give and will be your loyal companion.” – xo, Fernando

The perfect home for Fernando would have a fully fence yard with another confident dog (a.k.a. future BFF). Time and patience will be needed to continue his training and for him to blossom into the very good boy he is meant to be.
