About Xander

“Hi! My name is Xander and I am a happy guy looking for my forever home!

I love lying in the sunshine, carrying my toys around, looking out the window, and I love to go outside for walks! So many things to see and smell! When I see another dog when I am walking, I get so excited that I try to go meet them as fast as I can, but I am a big fellow and I really need to work on that! Liver treats help me focus! I am really friendly, but I tend to try and “reverse” out of my harness to go and visit them so I need a strong handler who is used to big dogs like me.

An active home would really be best! I can picture myself on long hikes in the mountain, and with this big shaggy coat I stay warm all winter too. My ideal home would have a yard for me to run and play in – and should I mention a secure fence, as the kennel I lived at before said I used to jump the fence to go visit my neighbours. Whoops!

In the past, I have been told I was good around cats but I haven’t seen one lately. However I do like to play, and my big face might be scary to some kitties so dog savvy cats might be best. Same with dogs – I am friendly but I tend to overwhelm everyone who is afraid of my size!

I have had some training and have been quick to remember it now that I am in a foster home. I sit to have my harness and leash put on and taken off, I come when my name is called, and I know sit and down. It makes me really happy when I get it right and get lots of pets.

I’ve gotten along with the people and dogs that I have met while at my foster home. With people, I have to say that I am partial to the ladies! I’m not too sure about kids and I sometimes bark at them. A home without kids would be best. Men make me nervous at first, but I really love my foster dad, so I guess I just need a bit more time to get to know them – once in a while men freak me out so I’ll bark and run away. Proper introductions are needed so I know they mean no harm! .

I love being petted, having my ears and belly scratched, and lying beside my foster people. I am very curious and like to see what my people are doing. I think I’m a born helper, but sometimes they say I am more of a hindrance than a help! I am learning though!

If you think you’d like to meet me and help me become the best fur friend ever, I’m very willing to work to get there! Let’s get together soon!” – xo, Xander
