About Ruby Tuesday
Ruby Tuesday came into AARCS’ care a shy scared and confused girl. She had not long before had puppies as she showed signs of having had a fair few litters. She was skinny, very shy and very scared. Ruby was not doing too well in a shelter environment she was scared of collars and leashes having never had one on! Ruby’s caregivers at the shelter knew she just needed to get into the right foster home that would give her time and patience to blossom and boy did she!
When Ruby Tuesday first got to our house she bonded with her foster sisters first. She would come excitedly to see me as long as one of the others dogs was a barrier. Eventually she started coming to me on her own for a quick touch and sniff. Fast forward a few months … Ruby a giant lump at my feet everywhere I go. She is pretty well over her initial shyness. She doesn’t enjoy being startled but recovers quickly and comes right back to check things out. She adores getting touched and wants to be near her people when they are at home.
Ruby is actually quite good in her crate when foster mom has to go out – a few treats thrown in to the back and and in she goes. Leash walks are still a bit stop and start but Ruby isn’t really scared of the leash anymore. Ruby has learned “sit” for treats and “go lay down” to her dog bed. She is working on “wait at the door”. Ruby is a very smart dog; she learns quick and is food motivated which helps.
Ruby definitely will chase squirrels and other small animals so I think a home without cats or small dogs is best at this time. She will also need a home with a yard to do her business while she adjusts and learns that walking on leash isn’t so scary after all. She would do best in a large dog experienced home, with people who are quiet and homebodies just like her.
Ruby Tuesday will make a family very very happy!
