About Almond

Almond is an older, laidback lady who just loves her people. She is low energy and low maintenance yet loves her walks and is great on the leash.

Almond was quite overwhelmed at the shelter but once at her foster home she relaxed and settled in quickly. This girl is very contented, well behaved and low energy, and just loves to be loved!  As she got used to her new surroundings, her gentle personality emerged, along with a playful side!

There’s no need for crating, either overnight or when left alone. She curls up and sleeps and is happy to wait for you. She’s a little nervous of new people, especially men, but once she knows they are ok she warms up quickly, often rolling over at your feet for some lovin’! She is motivated by high value treats and this has helped to reward her for staying calm when faced with something she might react to

She is fully house trained, doesn’t chew anything that doesn’t belong to her, and is very polite. On walks she is great on the leash, but does bark at some people and other dogs, so some care is needed. A confident owner who can reassure her and reward her for being good and staying calm would be great for her.

Almond is not overly food motivated, so rewards also come in the form of head scratches and pets which she loves. She does have some prey drive, so she would not like to share her new family with other small animals.

Do I Need Special Care?

Yes, Behavioral Special Needs - Almond is a sweet girl currently working through excitement based reactivity towards people, she also struggles with bicycles and dogs and fear of men. She will need patient and committed adopters to help her through this.
