Moderately shy

I am Soto, a majestic and large black cat. I have to admit, I was quite the shy young ‘gentleman’ for the first few weeks at my foster home. I really did like to sneak below beds and find hiding spots. A while back, humans were really quite scary to me, however, with time I have already began to explore and realize humans may not be the absolute ‘be all and end all’ of the world.

One thing that my foster mom finds particularly fantastic and entertaining about me is that I completely open up when there are other kitties around. When I first arrived at my foster home, the other cats are what got me to come out of my hiding spots. I love playing with the kitties and being around to receive treats.

I really, really like food and will always finish the meals that my foster mom gives me. I also take treats right out of my foster mom’s hands… I wouldn’t even come close to her a few weeks ago – so this is some major progress on my behalf. My foster mom now believes that I came from a place where I wasn’t properly taught how to be a cat. But now that I have spent some time with resident kitties, I am learning that humans are the ‘food and love providers’. It took a few weeks, but I have started to accept some pets from my foster mom, play with her hands and feet, and be in the hustle and bustle within the household. As I am still learning how to properly play, I probably shouldn’t go to a furrever home with young children, however.

In my furrever home, I would like to live with in a home with a feline friend (or two!) to keep me company. Having another kitty around would really accelerate the building of my trust with  my human friends while providing me some enrichment and company in the meantime. I also really need a human companion or human companions that understand that I will need some time to become comfortable in my home and will need some time to build a trusting relationship with my new family.
