WANTED: Dog Program Manager
FULL-TIME Salaried Position
Looking for an enthusiastic leader and animal lover to facilitate the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of homeless animals in our community.
ABOUT US: ALBERTA ANIMAL RESCUE CREW SOCIETY is a registered non-profit charity located in Calgary, Alberta facilitating over 2500 animal adoptions each year. Our mission is Changing Lives Through Kindness. The Dog Program department is a busy and demanding area responsible for the care and oversight of hundreds of dogs each year. We are looking for a highly dedicated leader to work cooperatively with our adoptions, behaviour, and medical teams, along with volunteers and foster homes, to manage the Dog Program in its entirety. Duties include but are not limited to managing a staff of four, intake of new dogs into the program, foster care placement, and shelter care oversight. The Dog Program team works closely with other departments and volunteers within AARCS to share information, provide support, and develop understanding to ensure the wellbeing of AARCS’ dogs. The department’s aim is to rescue and re-home dogs and provide the highest quality of care while in shelter and foster care. ABOUT YOU: The Dog Program Manager is an emotionally resilient leader who can build relationships and adapt to an ever-changing environment. No two days will be the same. Having both a love of people and animals, you are naturally optimistic, positive, friendly, and approachable. You are confident, open-minded and non-judgmental with an intuitive ability to see possibilities. At heart, you are an animal-lover facilitating second chances for homeless dogs in our community. Your strengths include impressive organizational, teamwork, time management and attention to detail skills. You want to know each dog and his/her needs. You have no problem stepping up to help your fellow volunteers walk dogs or join the executive team in strategic planning. You love problem-solving and have a holistic approach to finding solutions to complex problems. You take great personal satisfaction in your relationships with key stakeholders, including volunteers, foster homes, co-workers and rescue partners. Your lifestyle allows you to regularly and consistently maintain a flexible schedule. You are able to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate the needs of the organization.
- Personable and able to develop a positive rapport with staff, volunteers and external stakeholders with a diversity of experiences and backgrounds.
- Self-motivated and takes initiative; has the ability to set priorities and manage workloads with minimal supervision.
- Be adaptable to changing environments.
- Highly developed cooperation, collaboration, problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiating skills.
- Managerial experience.
- Emotional resilience and ability to handle stressful and demanding situations.
- Dog handling experience is required. Experience with behavioural/dog training issues considered an asset.
- Genuine interest in animal welfare as a career path.
- Proficiency in the use of computers, including Microsoft Office programs and database management.
