Hi i’m Smudge! You had me at “oh you’re so cute!”. All it takes is some sweet talk and i’m on my back ready for your love and belly rubs.
I’m definitely a shy guy until I can learn to trust you but I pawmise it’s worth it in the end! I will show you unconditional love.
I came into AARCS after being hit by a car so I had a rough go at life. Thankfully they fixed me up and sent me home with my foster mom. She’s working on helping me gain some weight/muscle and how to trust everything in this big beautiful world.
I’m no high maintenance pup. I can go months without a bath and still think i’m the prettiest boy around. My foster mom on the other hand doesn’t seem to agree….oops! I willingly sleep on the floor. Even if a hooman bed is offered to me, i’ll still choose the floor! Maybe you can win me over if you REALLY love those overnight snuggles ;). When i’m left alone i’m a very good boy. No crate needed! I’m not destructive, I just sleep until you come back and i’m happy with that.
I’m still learning how to “dog” so I need a family that’s willing to work on my socialization skills. This goes for both dogs and humans. Coming from a place where I didn’t know what love is, it’s different to learn how to accept it. My foster mom is teaching me that everything is going to be okay but it has taken some time to trust her. I also get a little anxious around the resident dog in my foster home but I have been willing to tolerate him. We don’t always like everyone we meet, right? I’m not the most playful boy but that might be because my leg is still healing… it takes time you know! My foster mom understands this and I hope you will too. I also need to learn that I can’t always have ALL the attention and to let the resident dog here have some attention too. I get a little grumpy and do some growlies if the other dog gets too much attention so I need to learn that foster mum’s love is spread equally!
If you’d love a laid back, low maintenance pup then i’m your guy!!
Pick me, choose me, love ME!

Does this Animal have Special Needs?
Yes, Behavioral Special Needs
Smudge is still learning some socialization skills and may be best as the only dog for now. He also may take many days to trust humans so an experienced dog owner would be best.
