    Story

Hi, I’m Winter! Though the season may bring to mind images of cold, sunless months, I promise that I embody all the good things about winter! I’m beautiful like a freshly snowed landscape, I’m warm, soft and cuddly like a blanket that’s fresh out of the dryer on those extra cold days, and I make a great case for staying in and cuddling up on the couch!

I’m a little shy at first, but I’m an affectionate and sweet soul that has a lot of love to give. So much so that I can get quite upset when I’m not able to give someone my attention, thats how much I love people! This is why I’d love to find a home where my human either spends the majority of the day at home with me, or can take me with them when they are out for more than just a few moments. The wonderful people here at AARCS are helping me work on that. I think they called it ‘separation anxiety’ but I like to think I’m just a sidekick that takes her job very seriously! As dedicated as I am, my new family should be willing to keep working with me to build my confidence and my tolerance to being left on my own so that I can take breaks from being your sidekick and just be happy doing my own thing. I get along well with other dogs similar in size to me, but they have to respect boundaries as my leg sometimes gets sore and bumping into me hurts. However, my leg doesn’t stop me from at all! I’m a great walking buddy, all the winding paths and trails are just so much fun to explore! I have learned that I would have to learn some boundaries myself when it comes to small critters and cats, but I make up for that by being amazingly calm with horses and cattle! I’m happy to assure you that I am fully house trained, I even whine when I need to go out! I’m happy for you to share your food with me, I very much so love anything food related! That’s right, I’m a proud sandwich snatcher! I’ve been told I’m very hard not to love, I may be a husky, but you would never know if not for my looks and whine! I’m so calm and gentle I would do well almost anywhere as long as I got my walks!

I’m also going to need a little extra care in my new home – I require some support with medications and supplements to manage my anxiety and some pain that I have in my hind legs. Perhaps in time and under the direction of my veterinarian, I may be able to manage on lower doses, different medications, or maybe won’t need anything at all, but for now I need them to help me through my day. (I don’t really understand the details of everything myself, so please speak to one of my caregivers for the details!) My new family should also know that I’ve had a dental that required some extractions. I’ve recovered from that, but it’s still good to know that OI have an extra special smile! Oh, and I was also a loving mom to some pups that have since gone off to start their own adventures with their families!

Words don’t do me justice, come meet me for yourself and see what I’m really like! I promise I’m worth it!

Does this Animal have Special Needs?
      Both, Medical and Behavioral

Medical – She takes Gabapentin and Osteogard joint supplement, and will likely require both on an ongoing basis. She has had several lower teeth removed and requires her food soaked in water before eating.

Behavioral – She exhibits anxiety when in a crate or behind a barrier and when left alone. She is taking Fluoxetine to help with that and additional behavioral training.
