Are you looking for a huggable, lovable, mature lady with enough floof to keep you warm all winter? Well, Miss Blackie might just be your gal!

This beautiful gal was brought into AARCS care suffering from a broken toe and is recuperating in a foster home. She didn’t like the shelter environment very much and was thought to be a bit of a grump, but that all changed when she got to her foster home. She’s the perfect house guest, content to spend her days laying around, chewing on her favourite bone. She is nice to the resident cat, and likes to play with the foster puppy she shares a home with (though she can’t quite match that puppy energy!). She loves holding hands, and is ecstatic when you let her try to be a lap dog.

Blackie has spent her years roaming free and being in charge, so she doesn’t do well in a crate. That said, she is well behaved in the house and hasn’t shown any destructive behaviors when left alone for entire work days. She’s generally quite low energy, but her excited bounce and bum wiggle when she sees her dinner will melt your heart. Due to her age and the adventures she’s had over the years, Blackie has been diagnosed with arthritis which causes her some pain and stiffness. She will be on a medication called gabapentin for the rest of her life to help keep her comfortable. The cost of this drug is about $30-35 for a 3 month supply at regular human pharmacies. Because this girl lives for meal time, medicating her is easy! Just throw her pills into the mix and she doesn’t even notice it’s there.

Blackie is friendly and cuddly, but has the grace and spatial awareness of a bull in a china shop. She can also be a bit grabby with her favourite toys and treats. For this reason, a home with big kids, or adults only, would be ideal.
