If you want a smart, loyal, energetic and friendly new member of the family – come meet Jo!
Jo has the playfulness of a puppy, but without the need to chew everything in sight. This is a very smart dog. He immediately learned to chew only on the toys given, courteously staying away from our shoes. He already knows how to sit, is learning how to lie down and even stays at times. He figured out right away that I was not going to let him jump up, but still jumps up on other people who let him (such as my children who seem to think it is fun to let him jump up). As I said, Jo is smart and knows who will accept what. Jo settled very quickly and easily into our home, with no anxiety issues. He loves to cuddle!
He is so eager to please and really loves praise and treats. He pulls on the leash at present and I would not allow a child to hold the leash, but with some training and lots of treats, I know Jo will learn to heel beautifully, because he wants to make you happy! Jo is learning about cats in our home, and sometimes barks at them, but is super curious and whines to meet them. I think he will do well with cats as long as the introduction is gradual and monitored. We took him to meet a friend’s cat and they got along really well right away, so I think Jo can learn to be around any cat with time. Jo gets along really well with dogs when allowed to meet them and play. When walking, however, he will bark and pull to go over to them in his eagerness to make a new friend! Again, with some training I think Jo will learn to walk quietly.
Jo loves to run and play, even taking a ball up to the top of the stairs, dropping it, running after it, then coming back up to the top to do it all over again. How nice is that! A dog that will entertain himself at times! He is great at fetching and knows how to “drop it” already as well. Yet he settles really quietly into his kennel, when I need to leave him there for a few hours, and lasts 9 hours overnight without whining to come out in the morning – no accidents!
Jo would do very nicely with a family who wants a playful dog, with someone who will throw a ball for him every day (we do this inside and out). He would be the perfect dog for agility training and will definitely want someone who will spend time training in one way shape or form, as Jo needs mental stimulation. Jo also just wants to be loved and will give you lots of love in return! Such a sweet, loyal dog. He is going to make some family a super nice pet!
Good with Cats?
Depends on the cat initially – but really Jo just wants to play with the cats.
