    Story

Purdy is a beautiful young adult with a playful spirit and a wonderful calm disposition.

My favorite thing in the whole world is my leash, as soon as I see it I get all bouncy inside because I know what is coming next! If you love to run and hike and even take long walks you will win me over pretty quickly. I can’t imagine my life without these activities because they make me feel so happy! I love exploring and being in nature, after all, it’s always been a part of my life.

I walk and run well on a leash but I do find bouncing bunnies, fluttering birds, inquisitive squirrels, and all the new smells quite fascinating and will stop in my tracks or decide we should chase them down, my lead! It’s best, for now, you keep me close by and have a watchful eye until I’ve learned all of my basic commands and our relationship is solidly bonded.

I really do love humans, big or small and I love when they pet me, it’s like I almost melt into their hands. I know I will fit wonderfully into a family or just have a person to call my very own. I can be a little shy at first but I had no problems moving in and adjusting to living with my foster family, including my 2 furry foster brothers. It might take me a bit to readjust but once we start sharing time together and building our bond I will show you my happiness and gratitude with my perky ears and joyful touch. I very much look forward to the time we will spend together being active.

I’m completely housed trained and I’m pretty independent and don’t have to follow you around the house everywhere. I have my favorite spots and I love my big bed to stretch out on. I haven’t shown any type of separation anxiety and just chill out waiting for you to come home. I live with two other dogs who I spend my days with so I’m sure that helps me too. Exercise allows me to relax, feel content and I know we will have our time together when you come home. I’m a pretty calm dog but when I see my favorite people I get so excited sometimes I will jump up on them. I’m easily corrected but if I didn’t say anything you might be caught off guard. I’m no small dog after all!

I’m just starting to figure out things like “sit” and “stay”. It’s all new to me but I like to make my people happy so I’ll get it figured out if you help me to understand. Although I don’t always sit, I stand perfectly still just waiting for what comes next. I’m very patient and just taking it all in right now. This feels like a brand new world to me and so far I’m making the most of it but I still need your guidance.

I haven’t figured out how to get in the car on my own yet and still find it a bit scary but the more I get taken to fun places the easier it is becoming. For a while you might still have to give me a lift in and remind me everything is going to be okay! I get a little nervous and on occasion it has upset my tummy (and you know what that means, maybe just bring an extra towel or two along). I’m learning just to lay down when travelling and it helps me settle.

I don’t yet tell you I need to go out or I need to come in, but if I hear a door opening I’m there in a flash. I’m pretty quiet so far, even when the other dogs are busy barking and making a fuss. Now that I’ve figured out it is safe inside, I like being both inside and outside. Right now I’m adjusting to being an indoor dog so I’m losing much of my thick coat. May I suggest you have the vacuum nearby and stock up on lint rollers before I arrive. The good thing is I like it when you brush me so this will be time well spent together!

Oh and I’m a bit of a fussy eater and I’m not really food driven but I have a few of my favorites you can tempt me with and exercise helps to build my appetite. I just can’t tell you what I like most but I will pick it out of my dish and put it on the floor if I’m not interested. Usually the other furry guys in the house will come along and clean it up for me.

I’m a pretty special dog and in need of a pretty special family or companion. My foster family tells me I’m going to be a hard one to let go!! Do you think I could be the right one for you??
