Sweet Sigmund! He is a lovely, affectionate cuddle monster and loves exploring his surroundings.
This sweet young boy came into the care of AARCS at only six days old with his siblings. Their mother was tragically killed after being struck by a car, leaving her puppies orphaned. Sigmund and his litter-mates were taken into the loving care of our foster homes where they were bottle-fed around the clock for 5 weeks. His foster noticed that his eyes just weren’t right and brought him in for a veterinary exam where it was discovered that Sigmund suffered from severe corneal ulcerations and glaucoma. This little trooper underwent extensive treatment leading up to his ocular surgeries; however, the impairments were far too great and we could not save his eyes.
Since then, he has been in special foster care helping him develop his basic behavioural skills. We have been working hard on basic commands he will need to have mastered to ensure his success in the big dark world. Siggy has been learning and playing with his two foster siblings, and they have been teaching him about manners (especially not biting as a way to explore his surroundings). We’re still working on house training. His ability to map out the house has so far been very impressive.
Little Sig will need extra-time to adapt and learn; we are looking for a very special adopter. He will need a family committed to guiding him and giving him a life filled with love and kindness. His forever family will definitely have another dog with a gentle nature; blind dogs succeed very well with a packmate/mentor, and inadvertently the mentor becomes his eyes onto the world. The family will also need to have been through some type of training program to ensure they are able to work with the commands he is learning now, as well as to be able to teach him how to deal with new circumstances.
