A shrinking violet but a beautiful flower!
Hi, my name is Rome, but my foster family calls me Rosa!
I came to AARCS as a stray, and there’s a good chance I had never had a home before. I was really skinny and a bit dirty, but I’ve been well-fed and well-looked-after since my rescue. Right now I weigh about 40 pounds and I could stand to gain a few more.
Since I spent two years on my own, I’m still kind of afraid of people. I’m not aggressive at all – just really nervous and easily startled. I’m still working on learning how to walk on a leash, and it can take me a while to get up the nerve to go outside, but I’ll do just about anything for some treats! This means my new family is going to have to have a lot of patience with me and give me nothing but love and understanding for a while. However, I am a very sweet girl and am very eager to learn these fun new skills with my forever family! Any kids younger than teenagers are probably too scary for me.
Part of being so nervous means I’m a bit of a flight risk. Since I can’t walk on a leash yet, it’s best for me to have a big back yard, with high fences. I’m mostly housetrained (I’ve only had a few accidents when I got really excited about playing with my foster brother), and have learned to sit really quickly. I love to run around and play in my yard once I am comfortable. I also love to play with other dogs (after proper introduction) so if you already have a playful one, that would be ideal!
While I’ll take a bit of work in the beginning I’ll reward you really handsomely, I promise. I’m learning that people aren’t always scary and really coming out of my shell. I’m a super sweet girl and all I need is a family who helps me understand that people are great!
