  • Story

Duke is an amazing dog with a ton of personality! He is an absolutely stellar addition to a well established pack with experienced people who can love him patiently!

Duke came to us in rough shape. He was just terrified that the world was out to get him, and his best defense was his mouth. After being in foster care with us for just a week, he was already showing vast improvement! He still wouldn’t let us touch him, but he would look at us and stay in the same room as we were. He has shown rapid progress and now lives mostly as a normal dog! Duke needs other dogs around him to help remind him “this thing you think is scary is actually okay!”. He needs someone who can patiently work on his confidence to draw him out of his shell and show him that the world is a beautiful place and that he is loved and cared for, no matter how scared he is. He is a younger dog, and this is shown all the time through his happy barks, playful attitude, and need to chew.

Duke is ready to move onto new and exciting things with a person who will love him unconditionally.

Does this Animal have Special Needs?
      Yes, Behavioral Needs

Duke is insecure around people. He needs other dogs to show him what is “normal”. He can sometimes nip when he is particularly nervous. He is nervous around new people, but will look from afar. He is good on leash, but the outside world is scary for him. He doesn’t shut down, but he does become a little sporadic and needs comforting to be assured that he is okay.
